Relay notifications allow you to identify the following; when a Relay is attempting to contact you when the Relay has entered/exited a geofenced area when the Relay's battery is low, and if the Relay user feels there's an emergency.
There are two types of message notifications that you can receive, and each comes into play under certain circumstances.
These notifications come with the ability to playback the message from the Relay user but only apply for Direct Chats - Missed Messages on the Relay app.
This notification will appear when you're contacted via your Direct Chat (the name of your app) when your phone is asleep or the Relay app is not in the forefront. This type of notification will appear with every inbound message to your Direct Chat.
Notifications from Group Chats do NOT come with the ability to playback messages.
They only appear if there is activity in a Group Chat (for example the Everyone Group Chat) when the Relay app is not at the forefront or your phone is asleep.
With this notification, you can determine how frequently you are notified of activity in the Group Chat via two options
Option 1: The default option or "Smart Notifications" makes it so that you're notified of the first message sent through a Group Chat. If messages continue to be sent in the Group Chat after you receive the first notification, you will not be notified again unless there are 60 seconds of inactivity in the Group Chat and then another message is sent.
Option 2: Receive a notification every time there's a message sent in the Group Chat. This option can be enabled by tapping on the Settings icon in the bottom right corner of the app > "Notification Settings" > Select "All Messages" for the Group Chat you wish this option enabled for.
Geofence notifications allow you to know when your Relay has either entered or left a geofenced area, which is identified by two distinct and simple notifications.
The notifications will provide you with the name of the Relay in question and the name of the geofence it has entered or left.
It can take up to 10 minutes for the Relay to report that it has entered or left a geofence to the app as that is the timeframe in which the Relay reports its location to our servers (every 10 minutes). However, you can adjust the frequency in which the Relay reports its location to every 5 minutes for more timely updates.
Learn how to adjust how often the Relay pings our servers here.
For example, if the Relay pinged our server 1 minute before it left the geofenced area, then you would not receive a notification that your Relay has left that area until 9 minutes later. If you adjust the frequency in which the Relay pings our servers from every 10 minutes to every 5 minutes, then there would only be a 4 minute delay in being notified if we used the same example.

These notifications come into play when the Relay user initiates an SOS Alert from their Relay due to an emergency or other scenario that they feel garners your immediate attention.
When an SOS alert is initiated, all app users on the account will receive a notification and a prolonged unique audible tone similar to that of morse code if their ringer/notification volume is turned up.
All app users and the Relay in question will be placed in the Everyone Group Chat until the SOS is resolved in the app. Once the SOS has been resolved, all app users will receive another notification informing them that the SOS Alert has been addressed and access to other chats are able to be accessed once again.

Once a Relay's battery drops to a certain percentage it will begin providing app users with low battery notifications each time it reaches a new threshold (25%, 10%, and 5%).
You can disable low battery notifications in the Relay app by tapping the setting icon in the bottom right corner of the app > "Notification Settings" > toggle "Battery Notifications" to the left.
